Think it will be very helpful. Great book it helped me a lot for just the basics. Small print even with glasses , otherwise good layout of the material. Not informative at all! See all reviews. Top reviews from other countries. I got this as I thought I would upgrade to the version of office at some time.

This is the one weakness of the book in that it does not flag up changes from previous versions. I have Office and although there were some substantial changes from Office there seem to be far fewer changes with this update. The main changes seem to be more colours and some extra formatting, there may be others but nothing that looked significant.

If you want to know about macros etc you will however need a more advanced book but will deal with most peoples needs including mail merge in word and using Excel as a database. As well as the actual book inside the back cover is a scratch off silver panel which when scratched with a coin reveals a code which allows you access to tutorials, which take you through everything step by step.

A very useful book which did make me realise there is little point in upgrading if you have Office It’s not clear who the target audience is for this book. The front cover suggests it is aimed at people in a working environment, and the product description suggests it is aimed at people at work being upgraded from Office to Quoted from the product description above: “It may seem like an eternity since your IT department upgraded you to the latest version of Microsoft Office.

I had expected the book would walk me through the changes introduced with this new edition of Office and show the updated features that can increase productivity. It doesn’t; instead, it starts with showing the reader how to start and end an office application and on to creating and editing documents from scratch. No mention of new features useful for work such as co-authoring or collaboration. Not even a mention of working on documents using different devices.

On the plus side, it is refreshing to see colour screenshots and the new font and style is refreshing. One odd thing though with this remodelled Dummies book is the width; it is missing 1. This book is ideal for anyone who has never used Office before, and will be starting a job that involves using Office Applications and needs to learn these from scratch. There is nothing in the book that will help anyone get up and running after the IT department upgrades the work computers to Very disappointed.

One person found this helpful. However, the use of colour doesn’t imply form over content – this is a genuinely clear and helpful book. Faithe Wempen has upheld the usual high standard of the Dummies series with clear, concise explanations of how to perform specific tasks in Office The level of detail is well suited to beginners as well as more experienced users who need a bit of memory jogger – this latter situation typifies my situation in Excel.

The only really obvious missing element is the installation options etc. The book also contains a code to access on line tutorials which in my view adds considerable extra value as access is included in the price of the book.

Overall, the layout and sequence of the book is is logical. A further strength is the coverage of the interrelationship between the various components of the Office suite. As a result a potentially dry subject becomes much more palatable for which the book deserves five stars.

This book is no less impressive and even a humble GP, like myself is expected, these days, to be conversant with most Office products, though sadly the most useful one to me was not mentioned in this guide. Anyone picking up this book for the first time will be more than rewarded and also more than satisfied. To be clear, there is a wealth of wonderful information which Ms Wempen has set down with alacrity, but she is let down by the page formatting.

Other than this, for those of you who have not been dazzled, like me, this work will be more than sufficient and very worthy. Furthermore, starting the discussion with an incorrect statement is not promising. This covers all of the basics for all of the programs included in Office , it’s a pretty hefty tome. Emphasis on the word basics here – this is in no way at all an in depth guide, if you want specifics you will probably need the guide specific to the program.

Regardless of anyone’s personal feelings about Office 16, this is a very well laid out and presented book. It follows a sort of loose logic by program, but I’ve found the best way to use these Guides as I have for many years now is to use the program, get stuck and look it up. Pro’s Very simple to understand layout. Clear and to the point wording delivered in a pretty light hearted, conversational manner. Useful hints and tips along the way.

Clear images and screenshots. Superb value for money. Cons The books are on fairly low grade paper, they will show signs of wear and tear pretty quickly.

The images are mostly in a grey scale and can be quite grainy. I have no problem with any Dummies Guide. They cover their subject matter admirably and despite the low grade paper, by the time you have worn out the book it doesn’t matter anyway because you’re probably good enough already or chewing your way through the program specific guides!

As a total Neanderthal when it comes to computers, I am determined to bury my reluctance to learn and perfect a few simple techniques with Office. I’m told that all this stuff is really simple. Hopefully I will get there but it’s not guaranteed. Dummies guides are always good value. We’ll have to wait and see if my eagerness to learn can be maintained. A good book for general MS Office duties.

It can be a little long-winded to describe what they want you to achieve but explains tasks well. Simple things hardest to find! This is the first time I have not given a Dummies book 5 stars. There is a lot in Office I shall not use but I have had a hard time finding how to do some simple things. Like removing an unwanted formatting record on screen. Don’t know how I brought it up in the first place and then can’t get rid of the red the to get a printable version. Also can’t find how to delete an unwanted file.

Bought as a gift for someone, to help them with office use. Good basic cover but it did let me down when I really needed an answer as I transfer stuff from WIndows 7 Office to Windows 10 Office It missed some anomalies i. Index had some gaps and there were obviously problems found on Google searches which the writer did not seem aware of.
